1 Hotel Central Park

A park-side building that treats plants and salvaged timber as its collection.

Salvaged timber, living greenery and a lobby that behaves more like a conservatory than a reception hall set the register here. The building sits a short walk from the park's southern edge, and the design leans on that proximity rather than competing with it. Reclaimed materials appear throughout — barnwood, hemp, stone with the saw marks left visible.

Art at this address is environmental rather than framed. Moss panels, hanging plant installations and raw-edge furniture do the work a hung collection would do elsewhere. Rooms follow the same logic: neutral fabrics, plenty of texture, and windows given priority over ornament.

Rosewood Sand Hill

Low ranch pavilions on landscaped grounds, with the mountains kept in view.

Low buildings spread across landscaped grounds, with the Santa Cruz Mountains held in view from most angles. The property reads as a series of pavilions rather than a single block, which keeps the scale domestic even at size. Californian ranch proportions inform the roofs and long verandas.

The collection inside is contemporary and regional, hung in corridors and lounges where guests actually pause. Terraces, fire pits and a broad pool deck extend the public rooms outdoors for much of the year. It has long served as a meeting place for the surrounding valley, which shapes the daytime atmosphere.

Round Hill Hotel

A headland of individually furnished villas above a small Caribbean beach.

A headland of private villas above a small crescent beach, with the main hotel building anchoring the shoreline. Villa interiors were shaped over decades by their owners, giving the hillside an unusual variety — no two are quite alike. White timber, louvred shutters and open verandas carry through.

The mid-century guest list left its mark on the place, and the hotel keeps that history visible without making a museum of it. Oceanfront rooms were reworked by a well-known designer in a pared-back palette of white and pale blue. Gardens, rather than corridors, connect most of the property.
